Why Is My Website Getting Traffic But No Enquiries?

If people are visiting your website but not getting in touch, the problem is usually fixable. Here is what to look for first.

Traffic without conversions is one of the most frustrating experiences for a small business owner. You can see people are visiting your site. But the phone is not ringing and the inbox is quiet.

Here is what is usually going wrong.

The Message Is Not Clear Enough

Visitors decide within seconds whether your website is relevant to them. If it is not immediately obvious what you do, who you help, and why you are the right choice, they leave.

Check your homepage right now. Can a complete stranger answer these three questions in under ten seconds?

•       What does this business do?

•       Who is it for?

•       What should I do next?

If not, that is your starting point.

The Call to Action Is Weak or Buried

A call to action tells your visitor what to do next. If your website relies on them figuring it out themselves, most will not bother.

Every key page should have one clear, visible action. Not five options — one. Whether that is booking a call, sending an enquiry, or signing up for something, make it obvious and make it easy.

You Are Attracting the Wrong Traffic

Not all website visitors are potential customers. If your SEO is pulling in broad or irrelevant searches, the traffic numbers will look healthy but conversion will remain low.

Look at what search terms are bringing people to your site using Google Search Console. If those terms do not match what you actually offer, your content needs adjusting.

There Is No Trust Being Built

People buy from businesses they trust, especially for services. If your website has no social proof — no testimonials, no case studies, no evidence of who you are — visitors have no reason to take the next step.

Add at least two or three genuine testimonials to your homepage or services page.

The Page Is Slow or Broken on Mobile

Over half of web traffic now comes from mobile devices. If your website is slow to load or difficult to use on a phone, a large proportion of visitors will leave before reading a word.

Use Google's free Page Speed Insights tool to check your site speed and mobile usability.

The Fix

Website conversion issues are almost always fixable. The most common solutions are:

•       Clearer headline and supporting copy on the homepage

•       A single, prominent call to action on every key page

•       Social proof added above the fold

•       Faster load times and mobile optimisation

•       Content aligned to what your actual customers are searching for
